Tonka Bean Absolute is a luxurious and highly sought-after substance that is prized for its unique fragrance and depth of character. Its rich and complex aroma is attributed to its high content of coumarin, a natural compound that imparts a suave, honeyed caramel, and vanilla candy-like scent to perfume blends.
Our Tonka Bean Absolute is extracted from the finest quality beans grown in Brazil, which are then processed in Grasse, France, using traditional methods to ensure the highest quality product. With an impressive 87.57% coumarin content, our Tonka Bean Absolute is superior to previous lots, which were in the 66% range. However, a coumarin content of over 90% can cause extreme crystallization when diluted, which never stays fully liquefied. Therefore, our Tonka Bean Absolute strikes the perfect balance between fragrance and functionality.
Tonka bean belongs to the oriental category of perfumery notes and is characterized by its warm, sweet, and slightly spicy scent. It shares some common characteristics with tobacco and amber, making it a popular ingredient in perfumes. Tonka Bean Absolute blends well with a variety of scents, including patchouli, sandalwood, rose, lemon peel, and lavender, adding depth and complexity to any fragrance blend.
Our premium quality Tonka Bean Absolute is a semi-solid crystallized substance that requires warming to liquefy. It is a solid / semi-solid crystallized substance that requires warming to liquefy. To blend it with a fixed oil, we suggest warming the oil of your choice, preferably odorless Fractionate Coconut oil, and blending it with the warmed, liquefied absolute. Using a magnetic stirrer is the best option for liquefying larger amounts. After blending, the Tonka Bean Absolute will remain liquefied and ready to use in your perfume creations.
How to liquefy and work with: This Tonka Bean Absolute is quite vicious (solid at room temperature) and one you will find needs to be gently warmed in order to liquefy and be easier to work with. I find a shot glass works well with small bottles. Place bottle in shot glass and add enough warm water (not hot/boiling) to almost reach the bottom rim of the cap. As water cools off refill with warm water until it reaches a more workable liquid state. Usually 10-15 minutes and a couple water changes is all it takes. You will need to work fast with this absolute as it will quickly re-solidify.
