St. John Wort is named after St. John the Baptist, since it’s usually in full bloom by Saint’s Feast Day which is June 24. Its wild yellow flowers were originally found in Europe, although it has since spread to the Americas, Asia, and the Middle East. St. John's Wort is primarily known as a mood elevator and natural remedy for depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), and pre-menstrual symptoms (PMS). Its other medicinal properties make this versatile infused oil useful for an array of health concerns due to its strong anti-inflammatory benefits and high levels of antioxidants. Apply to sunburned skin to reduce redness, to sensitive skin to soothe discomfort, and to the lower back to plump up the intervertebral discs of the spine to relieve back pain. Additionally, St. John’s Wort is very effective to remedy bruises and wounds — consider mixing with Helichrysum italicum to augment its repairing properties for skin contusions, sores and varicose veins.
Our St. John’s Wort is infused by macerating fresh flowers in organic virgin olive oil that results in a reddish amber colored oil. Its aromatic profile is herbaceous and slightly spicy, similar to olive oil, but sprinkled with fresh, fruity floral notes to round off a pleasantly scented oil applicable to most blends and formulas.
