We currently stock organic grown Plai essential oil and this wild harvested Plai. Both have similar aromatherapy benefits. Wild Plai has an ultimate aroma-therapeutic benefit highlighted by the rapid onset and long duration of analgesic effects.
Two Sesquinterpenes; (E)-1-(3,4-dimethoxyphenyl)but-1-ene, also called dimethoxyphenyl butadiene and another sequinterpene called Sesquiphellandrene are said to be responsible for the analgesic effects of Plai essential oil. This wild Plai contains a very high amount of each.
There are hundreds of species in the Zingiber genus with several types used in aromatherapy such as Zingiber officinale (also known as culinary Ginger) usually found in two versions, either from dried or fresh roots. Because this Plai is distilled from fresh roots it is more suitable for analgesic massage blends than Plai from dried roots. There is also a world of aromatic and overall aroma-therapeutic difference between Plai from fresh versus dried roots. This is why both types of Plai we currently offer are distilled from fresh roots.
Plai oil is effective aroma-therapeutically because of its cooling analgesic properties that ease muscular and joint pain as well as inflammation. Opposite to its relatives Ginger and Tumeric from the same botanical family Zingerberaceae that have warming effects on muscles and joints, Plai is soothing and cooling making it a highly reached for oil by Thai massage therapists needing a quick and extraordinarily long lasting analgesic solution with conditions of arthritis, rheumatism, and sports related tendinitis. Because of its analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects Plai is an excellent addition in sports injury related massage oils.
In natural perfumery Plai compliments citrus, spice, gourmand, and oriental wood notes. Because of the slight woodsy floral aroma in this Plai perfume artisans will love playing about with this oil to discover many interesting and unique combinations with other essential oils, absolutes and Co2 extracts.
