Plai essential oil is produced from non-GMO Zingiber cassumunar plants that are organically grown in a small garden situated in the central region of Thailand. This artisanal oil is obtained by distilling fresh roots that have been grown organically on about a hectare of land, giving it an exquisite aroma and exceptional quality.
We offer two types of Plai essential oil, one derived from wild-harvested rhizomes and the other from fresh roots. Both of these oils possess analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. If you are looking for an oil that has a rapid onset and longer duration of analgesic effects, we recommend using our
Plai (Wild) essential oil, which is preferred by professional massage therapists.
The Zingiber genus comprises hundreds of species, with several types used in aromatherapy, such as Zingiber officinale (commonly known as culinary Ginger). Our Plai essential oil is derived from fresh roots, making it more suitable for analgesic massage blends than Plai obtained from dried roots. Additionally, the aroma-therapeutic and aromatic differences between Plai from fresh versus dried roots are significant.
Plai essential oil has cooling analgesic properties that make it effective in helping to ease muscular and joint pain, as well as inflammation. Unlike its relatives, Ginger and Tumeric, which have warming effects on muscles and joints, Plai has a soothing and cooling effect, which makes it highly sought after by Thai massage therapists. It is an excellent solution for arthritis, rheumatism, and sports-related tendinitis due to its analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Therefore, Plai is a perfect addition to sports injury-related massage oils.
In natural perfumery, Plai blends beautifully with citrus, spice, gourmand, and oriental wood notes. Its slight woodsy floral aroma makes it ideal for artisans who want to experiment with unique combinations with other essential oils, absolutes, and Co2 extracts.
