Narcissus Absolute, also referred to as Narcissus des Plaines, is a precious aromatic flower artisanly produced in Grasse, France. Traditionally, Narcissus des Plaines is solvent extracted, and often grouped with other florals in an aromatic bouquet. Our hexane free extraction of Narcissus absolute is completely pure, making this absolute the most rare of any Narcissus in the world - we are absolutely delighted to make this extraordinary floral available. Approximately 3520 pounds of fresh Narcissus poeticus flower petals were used to produce just 1 kilo absolute.
Out of the two types of Narcissus absolute available, our orange colored Narcissus des Plaines is vastly different than and greenish brown Narcissus des Montagnes absolute from Southern France. Our Narcissus des Plaines has a floral-sweet aroma with herbaceous-green and earthy back notes. Narcissus des Montagnes, as described by master perfumer Steffen Acrtander, is sharp, somewhat violet-leaf-like odor of green foliage, earthy, and balsamic-spicy, reminiscent of carnation and hyacinth. Thus, our Narcissus des Plaines is the more desirable and floral of the two types, and the most rare of treasures that many seek to find.
We find the aroma of this current batch of Narcissus Absolute to be heady, lushly sweet, intensely floral with a sheerly spiced aquatic accord and faint nuance of oak moss earthiness. When diluted, this single extract makes a full bodied fragrance in itself, unraveling its sublime aromatic nuances like a fine perfume. Narcissus blends well with many other aromatics and is truly a hidden gem in a natural perfumer's repertoire of aromatics. Notable high end perfumers Creed, Clive Christian and Chanel expertly use narcissus in their signature scents.
Narcissus Absolute also has aromatherapy benefits ranging from soothing the nerves, a relaxant, anti-anxiety, mental exhaustion, anti-stress and highly regarded for situations of insomnia to promote deep sleep. Valerie Ann Worwood cites in 'The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy' therapeutic uses of Narcissus Absolute for stress, tension, anxiety, insomnia, muscular spasms, aches and pains, nervousness, inability to relax, and troubled minds with therapeutic properties noted as antispasmodic, hypnotic, nervine, sedative and soporific.
