Mandarin Red from completely ripened fruit, and Mandarin Yellow from fruit in the middle of the ripening stage.
Our Mandarin Yellow oil from cold pressed semi-ripe fruit peel is the most floral of all mandarin oils. The fruity, sweet, honeyed floral aroma of Mandarin Yellow essential oil adds a unique combination of zesty floral-citrus high notes in natural perfume and eau de cologne compositions and blends particularly well with Neroli, Bergamot and Sandalwood. Although not a substitute for
Yuzu essential oil, Mandarin Yellow can be used when Yuzu is unavailable to add citrus floral notes somewhat similar to Yuzu. Mandarin Yellow is our top pick of all mandarins for perfumery use because of its smooth sweet citrus-floral aroma that plays ever so nicely with so many other essential oils.
This Yellow Mandarin essential oil contains limonene (71.64%) for antibacterial, antiviral and expectorant qualities. An excellent choice for skin toners and cleansers with its astringent, antiseptic, antibacterial, antioxidant, and balancing properties.
With regard to phototoxicity, there appears to be confusion among varieties of mandarin with some sources indicating yes and others no. Our most trusted source, Robert Tisserand (Essential Oil Safety), indicates Mandarin 'leaf' essential oil (Citrus reticulata blanco) is phototoxic and the oil cold pressed from the 'peel' is not. We found no delineation of information between Green, Yellow and Red Mandarin. NAHA also indicates 'Mandarin' is not phototoxic, as does Aromahead Institute and Aromaweb.
