Pink Lotus Absolute oil, hexane free extracted, and Lotus Garden Botanicals crème de la crème flagship flower.
Like white and blue lotus (although technically the blue flower is a water lily of species caerulea and all true lotus flowers are from species nucifera), the initial aroma of Pink Lotus absolute is slightly earthy and pungent but sheds these notes quickly to reveal a unique floral heart. Pink Lotus oil has a floral side that expresses a majestic and regal aquatic back note once diluted. There is profound clarity and freshness with slightly earthy herbal bottom notes. Although these herbal notes fade to make the floral heart stand out, they are always in the background, giving strength to the delicate beauty of the flower, much like the strong stem supporting the lotus blossom.
Making pure lotus absolute is a rather arduous task because its petals produce little absolute. About 75,000-100,000 pink blossoms are needed to make one kilo of absolute. That is a great amount of flowers handpicked from ponds on the third day after blossoms open. There is a rapidly closing window of harvest time where waiting only a couple more days will render a weaker fragrance. After flowers are picked and separated from the stem they are loaded into extracting units. Several washings are required in order to remove the waves, pigment and oil from the flower petals. This process renders what is called concrete that must now be separated in order to extract the absolute oil contained within. Before the absolute is obtained, a delicate painstaking process of chilling, filtering and vacuum distilling is done that separates the hexane free solvent from the absolute.
Pure Lotus oil was used by ancient Greeks and Romans to cure health problems like asthma, rheumatism, and for hundreds of years has been used for spiritual enlightenment, particularly in Asia and SE Asia.
