Wildcrafted, certified organic steam distilled, pure aroma-therapeutic Lavender stoechas essential oil from Portugal obtained from the flowering tops of the plant.
Lavender stoechas (also known as Spanish or Stoke Lavender) is an evergreen shrub that usually grows from 30-100 cm (12-39 in) tall. The flowers which appear in late spring and early summer are purple/violet to pink and quite rare in white.
More fragile than common lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), Lavender stoechas is less winter hardy, but more resinous in its oils. Like other lavenders, it is associated with dry, hot, sunny conditions in alkaline soils.
Native to the Mediterranean region it is said to have earned its Latin name from the Romans who called the plant 'Stochades', which is what the ancient Romans called the island of Hyeres where Lavandula stoechas was most commonly found over 2000 years ago.
This genus of Lavender is quite different from other lavender species in looks and the oil that is extracted from it. Lavender stoechas is widely known to stimulate circulation and the immune system as well as helping to remove mucus, so therefore can be excellent for defeating respiratory infections and maintaining a healthy respiratory system.
Lavender stoechas has a lighter floral aroma than true lavender (Lavendula augustafolia), with a herbal, medicinal and light camphoraceous smell compared to Lavender Spike that is more camphoraceous. Lavender stoechas contains ketones which stimulate the body's natural defenses to help drive out infection and is particularly useful against the common cold and flu. It is also known for its analgesic, antioxidant, antispasmodic, antiseptic and anti-convulsant properties.
Lavender stoechas is used commercially in air fresheners and insecticides. Aroma-therapeutically it is used for headaches, irritability, nausea, feverish colds, rheumatic pain, and as a natural insect repellent.
This essential oil contains a high percentage of Camphor, so therefore should be used with caution, and not be used on children.
