Chili Pepper is an interesting aromatherapy oil when used in careful dilution for skin applications. The recommended dilution amount in carrier oil should be no greater than 0.025% to 0.075%. Linda White, MD, writes in her book co-authored with Steven Foster "The Herbal Drugstore" that there are medical conditions treated with Capsaicin, the component in chili peppers responsible for their heat; among these are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, diabetic neuropathy, bursitis, fibromyalgia and shingles. In another publication written especially for senior citizens it was listed as long-term pain relief.
Carrier oils for dilution include Wasabi
with Sandalwood Seed
. Both oils have anti-inflammatory properties and promote increased blood flow. An analgesic blend of 0.025-0.075% Chili Pepper Co2 blended in Wasabi and Sandalwood Seed could be the triple punch to benefit muscular and arthritic related aches and pains.
Aromatherapy use: analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, arthritis, astringent, bactericidal, bruises, bursitis, diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, shingles
General use: specialized massage blends; lotion, cream and ointment preparations
Contraindications: Chili Pepper Co2 is a mucous membrane irritant and strong skin sensitizer. Keep away from eyes, children and pets! Not advised for dermal application greater than 0.025-0.075% dilution.
