Chamomile Roman from the same botanical family Asteraceae as Chamomile Blue (German)
but from the genus Chamaemelum whereas Chamomile Blue is from genus Matricaria. Even though related, there are significant differences between the two.
Chamomile Roman is a fragrant clear to light yellow essential oil with a sweet, crisp, herbaceous, fruity apple-like scent that enhances its pleasant sweet note.
The most popular uses of Chamomile Roman include aromatherapy, perfume, skin and hair care products, especially hair care that is geared towards blondes.
Aroma-therapeutically, Chamomile Roman is considered useful for skin inflammation, skin diseases, acne, migraines, headaches, asthma, menopause and menstrual problems, pain, insomnia, anxiety, and stress. Many sources recommend its use as an excellent pain reliever for arthritis, sprains and headaches. When comparing the difference between two types of Chamomile (Roman and Blue), for pain relief, stress and insomnia Chamomile Roman is recommended and Chamomile Blue for its remarkable anti-inflammatory chamazulene content.
Because it has such a calming effect I like to put a couple drops on my temples and base of neck before settling in on a long haul flight. Anyone with a fear of flying might also find Chamomile Roman to be beneficial in helping calm anxiety.
Aromatically Chamomile Roman essential oil has a beautiful scent ideal for diffusing to induce relaxation and de-stress. When mixed with carrier oil such as odorless Fractionated Coconut it mellows down and unfurls a light fruity apple-like sweet herbaceous aroma.
For skin care I find it blends beautifully with Foraha (Tamanu)
and results in a delicious chocolaty hazelnut like aroma with a sweet herbaceous back note. Because of the extraordinary healing abilities, skin cell regeneration qualities, and quick absorption without oily residue, Foraha is an excellent carrier oil choice to pair with Chamomile Roman for eczema, rosacea, acne and mature or anti-aging skin care blends.
