Somewhat of a stranger to more well known absolutes, Black Spruce absolute is by all accounts a hidden gem in the world of perfumery. Black Spruce absolute is produced from sustainably wildcrafted leaves also known as needles, gathered from forrested areas in Canada. No trees were fallen to gather the raw material for this absolute.
Surprisingly this absolute does not display as much of a straight up conifer aroma compared to the steam distilled essential oil. Black Spruce Absolute is complex and intruiging with layers of a honeyed conifer, entwined with fruity and balsamic notes that are touched with a nuance of leather. Black Spruce is definitely an absolute for the natural perfumer's repertroire, particularly for its long dry down making it a noble fixative of great quality.
