Our exquisite and extremely rare Agarwood oil from the first distillation (Grade I) of naturally occurring dark resinous Aquilaria malaccensis heartwood diluted 10% in organic golden Jojoba for affordability.

The most premiere quality Agarwood comes from the first distillation and is known as Grade I;  the second distillation is Grade II, and so forth. The efficacy of this Grade I Agarwood oil is unmistakable and undeniable; needless to say, we guarantee its authenticity and sublime aromatic quality.

Whether making perfume, incense, anointing or spiritual blends Agarwood (Oud) imparts a unique, mysterious, luxurious aroma.  This essential oil has an extremely tenacious, deep and resonating character. For those accustomed to our previous Co2 from Vietnam, this essential oil simply fails to disappoint and is an olfactory delight for adding refinement and opulence to fine perfume bouquets and accords.

A study involving the screening of anticancer activity from agarwood essential oil concluded that "based on the simple screening procedures (cell viability assay and cell attachment assay) as well as cytotoxicity assay (SRB assay), AEO was observed to possess anticancer activity towards MCF-7 breast cancer cells. The findings offer evidence to further support the traditional uses of AEO to treat inflammatory related diseases. As such, this warrants further research to investigate the mechanism of actions of the AEO for better understanding and positioning of the essential oil as potential remedy for cancer."  Go to complete article.

Although Agarwood has clear aromatherapy benefits, its costly nature is prohibitive to most.  We sourced this rare essential oil because of repeated requests from our Agarwood aficionados and fine perfume artisans.  We believe this essential oil is every bit exquisite as our previous Co2 from Vietnam with an added depth of sultriness.  Perfumers take note, if you have never had the opportunity to experience this luxurious oil you owe it to yourself to try one of our sample sizes, you are guaranteed to be captivated!

Because of the cost involved with this precious oil we have blended 10% in fractionated coconut oil to make it more affordable.  There are no complimentary samples of our pure Agarwood, thank you for understanding.  To sample pure Agarwood before purchasing a larger size we recommend selecting from 0.5mL and 1mL options HERE.

Agarwood Facts: Also known as Oud, Aloeswood, Agar, Oudh, and Oodh, premium Agarwood oil is the result of the aquilaria tree becoming infected with a type of mold. In normal growth, the heartwood of the aquilaria tree is relatively light, pale colored and barely aromatic.  Only after the mold invades the heartwood and progresses does the tree then produce a dark aromatic resin in a defensive response to the parasitical mold attack. The result of the naturally occurring defensive mechanism culminates with the heartwood becoming very dense, dark, and resin embedded. The parasitical infection and subsequent decomposition is a very slow process that can take several hundred years in natural habitat.

Pure Agarwood oil from wild harvest is extremely rare and quite expensive. Mass indiscriminate tree harvesting for precious Agarwood oil production, particularly over the past thirty years, severely depleted natural resources. The demand for high quality Agarwood by fine perfumeries and the negligence in replanting resulted in premium quality wildcrafted Agarwood oil becoming extremely rare. Ecologically sound practices have been established by plantations to replant, allowing trees to grow to maturity, but as you can imagine this is also a slow and arduous task.

One must exercise caution when purchasing Agarwood oil due to inferior oil production from lighter colored wood of the aquilaria tree in unscrupulous attempts to meet demand. True Agarwood oil from wildcrafted dark, resin embedded aquilaria heartwood is currently a treasured find.  Most Asian and SE Asian countries have placed severe restrictions on harvest and export.   This makes our new Agarwood essential oil not just a rare find but a proud one at that.

Agarwood 10%
I debated with myself about giving this review because this sample left me a bit confused. I am in no way an agarwood/oud aficionado but this oil was so different from what I have encountered. First let me state that I know that many things affect the scent profile of an essential oil (species/sub-species, country of origin, type of distillation, age of the source material, etc.) but this dilution was . . . disappointing. It's very faint and all I can detect is a bit of sweet woody mustiness that fades away in a couple hours. I wouldn't describe it as earthy or animalic (unless mustiness is considered those things). I tested several times on strip and skin and each time the scent stayed very close to the tester and did not project much. That's not a bad thing as far as fixative qualities but different from what I've experienced and expected. Also, the oil is a pale yellow and not the deeper color of other agarwood oils I've experienced - except one, an oil from young, farmed trees that the seller indicated as "not oud quality". If I can afford it in the future, maybe I'll sample the pure oil. But again, this dilution was disappointing for me. ***SUBMITTED BY LGB ADMIN 11/01/2016: *** Thank you for submitting your review. Our pure Agarwood (Oud) essential oil does in fact have a very deep brown color that when diluted 10% in Golden Jojoba it does not retain the deep color like when pure. The 10% dilution is also 90% less aromatic and does not contain the depth of aroma that pure Oud has. This 10% dilution is offered as an economical alternative to our exceptionally exquisite pure Agarwood (Oud). This dilution is in Golden Jojoba rather than Fractionated Coconut Oil that we usually use for dilutions so the Jojoba color is also projecting into the overall diluted color. We found the essential oil to meld better in Jojoba than FCO thus our decision regarding the 90% base carrier oil. Our pure Oud is very strong aromatically and extremely earthy, animalic, and tenacious. Perhaps in the future you will try it. We are satisfied with the current dilution and am truly sorry to hear it did not meet up to your expectations.

This dilution of Agarwood is spot on. It is the perfect concentration of Agarwood to exude its rich, natural aroma. This blend is easy to work with, as Agarwood is VERY difficult to handle in full strength. A few molecules off and the blend can be ruined. This 10% blend in jojoba is excellent. The golden jojoba makes it manageable to be used in other blends. Well done. I will definitely be purchasing again.
